Wharf to Wharf 2010
I participated in the Santa Cruz Wharf to Wharf this past Sunday. It was my second time and this time I did it with barely any training. I think the most I ran was 3+ miles at work on the treadmill. Well, I didn’t expect to beat any records. It was more to just do it, get a t-shirt, and donate some money to Santa Cruz athletic programs. Charlene, Ryan, Kolina, and I were up early – around 6AM to head out. We encountered barely any traffic until we headed into Santa Cruz. We lined up at the long long start line and stood around keeping warm and fake stretching.

When the starting gun went off we didn’t move at all; took us about 5+ minutes to get to the official start line, where the nice commentator told us the legitimate runners at the start were already past mile 1. The first few miles were pretty crowded – people who stood near the 7minute mile markers at the start were obviously walking. So, we finished the first mile in like 20 minutes. I kept chugging along and came in with a whooping time of 1:09:56. Now if you factor out the delay at the starting line, I’d like to think I was around the one hour mark. Or so I’ll say.

After finishing the run we took a shuttle from Capitola back to the car and ate at Cafe Brasil. Nothing like steak, egg, beans, and rice to fill you back up. Pretty sure that despite all of the exercise, I consumed many more calories than I burned. Thinking about making it 3x at Wharf to Wharf next year? Maybe. Anyone in??
You didn’t talk about the music. I want to do it again just for that.
oh yes! you have to join the race to get that experience!
