Los Angeles! Highway 1!

Kolina and I spent the past weekend in Los Angeles. Despite my strong dislike for the traffic and the perceived pretension that pervades the city, I had a wonderful time. We visited Kolina’s close friend soulmate Kim, ate lots of good food, rode a ferris wheel, and drove back on Highway 1. The drive was something I’ve wanted to do for many years now, and although it took 12 hours to get back, it was well worth it. I only have a few pictures to share from the weekend, but quality over quantity, right?

Food:

Diddy Riese had some amazing ice cream sandwiches. And only for $1.50!

Other choice food, for your information, included:

  • Nelson’s Red Velvet Cupcakes – a delicious snack on the drive down!
  • Novel Cafe in Westwood – great for brunch or even spending the afternoon with a book or computer
  • Palomino in Westwood – decent wine selection, delicious appetizers, including crab & artichoke dip
  • Champagne Bakery in Sawtelle – good place to have a Sunday brunch
  • Fish Hopper in Monterey’s Cannery Row – excellent seafood (recommend the sanddabs) and ocean views

Santa Monica:

We spent the latter half of Saturday in Santa Monica, going to the beach boardwalk and doing some shopping.

Despite this being a vacation, I couldn’t resist stopping by the office to put in some quality work *wink*

Highway 1:
On Sunday we drove up Highway 1 from Los Angeles to Santa Cruz. A few stretches were relatively boring and not even along the coast, but the breathtaking views were well worth it after we passed through San Luis Obispo.

That’s it!

  5. [...] Reid drove me down to LA the previous weekend before last to visit Kim! It was also my first time really walking around LA, as most of my previous trips have been to just to visit relatives during Thanksgiving when I was younger. Reid beat me to the blog post (again), so I’ll just punch out some of my highlights: [...]
