Crabbing and Biking
Last week was spent BBQing and Biking and this weekend was much in the same. Not that it’s a bad thing. Saturday was spent in San Francisco, meeting up first with some friends for lunch at Taylor’s in the Ferry Building. We headed up to the SF Municipal Pier to try our luck catching crabs. 4 hours of crabbing netted (get it?) 4 crabs. Besides it being pretty windy, it was well worth it. If you’ve never gone crabbing before, it’s pretty fun. First, assemble your net and ate some chicken/fish into a bait jar in the middle:

Second, throw it into the water!

Third, wait around, admire the view, eat food, etc:

Finally, pull up your net, with hopefully a crab:

It’s easier than it sounds. There’s a lot of regulations about crabbing – in SF’s Municipal Pier you can’t catch Dungeness Crabs; this was the most frustrating, since we pulled up some delicious looking ones. Also, crabs have to be 4 inches or longer across their shell. A fair amount were too small. But, when all was done, we had four crabs for a delicious dinner:

It was worth the time spent, but next time I think going to Pacifica or somewhere else where we need a permit to catch Dungeness crabs is the way to go. Oh and my car got tagged while I was there – some punks spray painted half of my front hood and the windshield! It luckily came off after some good scrubbing but sheesh, how pathetic is it to happen during the day. Maybe they were jealous of my good parking spot… I was up early on Sunday to go biking up Montebello Road with Wilmot, David, Henry, and his friends. Even though we started biking at 7:45AM, it turned out to be a good choice, since by the time we reached the top, it was getting hot.

By Google Maps, it was 17.3 miles, but I counted 22 or so miles on my bike computer. David’s bike computer was even smarter and put out this nifty graph (click to view larger version):
About 2800 meters of climbing across 8.61 miles. Quite the workout and a really fast descent to make the climb worth it! However, of all the trails (not that many in retrospect) I’ve done in the surrounding area, Montebello isn’t the best, especially since it’s not covered and some of the upper road is pretty bumpy. It connects to Page Mill via a fire road, so one day when I’m feeling ambitious, I might do that.

hehe your puns are just as bad and awesome as mine are! :P
Punks!
