Gravatar!!!
Nelson, who is already the king of favicons, deserves a gold medal for his pro-tip on using avatars as a commentor and a webmaster.
For those of you who comment on your favorite (or most despised) blog, head over to Gravatar and sign-up! You can upload an image to the site (and crop it) for use on Gravatar supported sites. Whenever you write a commet, you’ll have a neat avatar next to your name – a sure-fire way to stand out!
For webmasters who use self-hosted WordPress installations 2.5 and higher, Gravatar functionality is built in, so as long as it’s enabled (it is by default), you don’t have to do anything to let your readers take advantage of this feature. If you use any other popular blog hosting platform, the Gravatar Implementor’s Guide can help you out.
(For reference, you can enable/disable Gravatars on your WordPress-enabled blog by going to the Settings > Discussion administration panel. Read this WP doc for more info.)
Now, it’s just a matter of spreading the word and having gravatar-enabled users comment on your site. Click into this post to see what I mean!
(For reference, Nelson should have blogged about this, but he told me he’s too lazy.)
Check out my cool Gravatar!
