Weird Week

Last week, for lack of a better word, was weird.

I had a pretty hard time sleeping, regularly falling asleep past 2AM throughout the whole week and having this nagging cough throughout the day. Guess that’s why this week was weird – it was like I was going throughout the week in a dazed stupor. Evan suggested that a humidifier might help, so I picked one up. One week later – I’m much better. Thanks!

Went to Stanford on Monday with Sandy. I tagged along since she was going to the bookstore to pick up her course-reader and I hadn’t been on the campus for quite some time. I picked up some gym shorts and was impressed by how much Old Union had changed since I left. It’s much more marked off in terms of which part cyclist should ride on. I think that is good for preventing collisions, of which there are many.

Returned to Stanford on Wednesday to meet up with a college friend for dinner at Sushi Tomo. Also grabbed yogurt at Red Mango. I must say it’s nice to reconnect with old friends – I’ll have to start doing that more often this year.

In the meantime, I found out that people in Pennslyvania like to call the game, telephone, “whisper down the lane.” Weird. Other names for it:

  • Chinese whispers
  • Arab phone
  • Russian scandal
  • Broken telephone [source: Wikipedia's entry "Chinese Whispers"]

Had a 7AM meeting on Thursday, which was sort of difficult having gone to bed only 4 or so hours earlier. Krispy Kreme donuts made up for it, though!

I was also convinced to buy a snowboard! When I was placing my order the phone rings and it’s the Stanford Fund, asking for money. Poor Freshman talks me up and since I already have my credit card out, I donate $25. They timed that really well.

One thing that I’ve been particularly proud of is that I’ve been exercising everyday, either going to the gym or biking. I took my new Android phone on my ride on Saturday and was really happy with the accuracy of the data. And the seamless upload – click the red balloon to see stats from the ride:
