Christmas Lights
My reader has been filled lately with posts about Christmas memories and Christmas songs, so I thought I’d jump in and say a few words about Christmas lights. My neighbors here in Santa Clara went all out with decorations that must really run up the electricity bill:

But, back home in St. Louis I must say that people take their Christmas lights seriously. I live very close to Tillis Park, which for the past 23 years, has created a “Winter Wonderland” where you can drive or take a carriage ride through the park for a pretty impressive display of lights. When I was in 7th grade, my school took a field trip to the park to help string up lights. Although the finished product is really stunning, stringing lights around a wrought-iron ornament is not very glamorous. But, it was an experience that still reminds me of all the effort that’s required to create a pretty light display. Here’s a photo of Christmas lights on 4th Street in Berkeley:
