Back to the Grind (Day 17-18)
I certainly can’t complain about my experience working abroad – excellent teammates, fun work environment, beautiful places to travel, delicious food, incredible shopping. But the work part of why I came (and even got to come) to India is probably not so apparent on my blog. So far it has been to highlight some of my amazing trips, which of course is something I know the few people who read this blog are interested in seeing.
I obviously can’t talk about the nature of my work, I will say that I’ve felt like I’ve worked really hard while I’ve been here. It’s been a long few weeks – coming in ~8AM and staying until 6:30/7:00PM, and then going out to eat and maybe coming back to the office. And with daylight savings time affecting the US, video conferencing with Mountain View now takes place at 10:30PM. When I come back I still do a little email, but for the past two days it’s also because the Internet at my guesthouse is not working. I guess the other reason why I’m online and up so late is because I am starting to miss my friends (yes, coworkers included) who are beginning their days in America. The election particularly reminded me of how *far* I am from home – instead of watching the election with friends, I was sitting at my desk and peaking onto a live feed from CNN. I barely caught Obama’s acceptance speech, but seeing him talk at 9PM central time was a lot different than early morning in the office. But this is what it’s like to be abroad, I guess – and as I’ve slowly adjusted, I know it will quickly end and I’ll soon be back in California.
This weekend I’m heading to Hampi – taking an overnight train on Friday and returning on another sleeper train Monday morning. So while you can certainly expect many pictures, part of the reason I’m taking this trip is because a trusted source has informed me that Hampi is very relaxing, and well, I could really use that.
