Geo-tagging My Yosemite Photos

I know I already blogged about my trip to Yosemite, but wanted to share some exciting news – my photos are geo-tagged! (well, at least the first day).

When I was visiting St. Louis this past weekend, I was reminded of the GPS device mounted to my Dad’s Nikon camera; he pointed out that while my Nikon D70s cannot support the hardware he has, there’s lots of software that can allow you to sync your photos with a separate GPS device you brought on a trip. Luckily, I had my Garmin GPS turned on for our hike, meaning I had the chance to test it out.

He pointed me to this webpage, which compared various geo-tagging software for the Mac. I ended up using GPS Photo Linker, which allowed me to map the first day of my hike. You can see the map here.

If you’d like to download the file that allowed me to geo-tag photos on the Vernal/Nevada Falls trail (I’m looking at you, Jason), just click these links for whatever format you want: gsx or tcx

I think I just became very interested in geo-tagging. In the future, I’ll make a point of having my GPS with me whenever I plan to take plenty of photos.

Ha! After your second paragraph, I was wondering if I could get the file from you.
