Obama
I think it’s fairly obvious that I’m an Obama supporter. I donated to the campaign (and got a cool t-shirt out of it) and went to a local meet-up during the California Democratic primary. But after watching Obama’s acceptance speech tonight I must say I’m truly inspired. If you haven’t watched his speech, you best do so on the Democratic National Convention website [note: Microsoft Silverlight is required to view the high quality video].
Obama’s delivery was nothing short of remarkable, and the acceptance speech was not full of rhetorical flourishes – there was actual substance and plenty of meat in his rebuke of McCain’s criticisms. He easily dispatched of notion of being a elitist celebrity or being inexperienced in foreign policy. But, listening to Obama speak is clearly a treat and I can only image what it would have been like to one of the 85,000 people who heard Obama in person on this historic night. What stands out to me most about Obama’s style is that he looks beyond party lines when speaking about the future of America. To quote from what I think is the most emotional part of his acceptance speech:
The times are too serious, the stakes are too high for this same partisan playbook. So let us agree that patriotism has no party. I love this country, and so do you, and so does John McCain. The men and women who serve in our battlefields may be Democrats and Republicans and Independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a Red America or a Blue America – they have served the United States of America.
Inspiring. Truly inspiring. It’s a speech Pat Buchanan even calls the best convention speech ever. He even had to be cut-off in the middle of his gushing due to time. Ridiculous!
I just made another donation to the campaign. What about you?
Obama was pretty amazing. Watching him speak, it’s hard to imagine anyone not being inspired.
But when we were back in Ohio, at some times of the day literally every other ad on TV was a McCain fear ad. Whispery, ominous voices trying to scare people into voting McCain. Unfortunately, that stuff works. I hope enough people see through it this year.
I made a donation about 10 minutes after he ended his speech. I hope it goes towards a rebuttal tv ad in Ohio (or Florida).
A friend of Pat Buchanan’s is no friend of mine
Go, Obama!
