Pointless Aerial Coverage

Just finished watching the Lakers eke out a victory over the Celtics tonight.  One thing that I don’t understand is why there’s aerial coverage of basketball games:

I thought the point of aerial coverage is to provide a bird’s eye view of a sporting event.  This makes sense, if a game is held in an OUTDOORS stadium.  Why does anyone care to see the top of an enclosed stadium?  And how is this exciting for the blimp pilots?  They can’t see anything.  If someone went up and took stock footage of the stadium and replayed it at each game, nobody would be able to tell the difference.  Pointless, if you ask me.

Just like on the news where they’ll do a live segment outside of a building at night, just to say, “Hours ago, inside these doors, some boring political thing happened.”
