Bike to Work Day

Today was Bike to Work day and of course, yours truly participated. I’m glad I got up early, because as soon as I got on my bike…PFFFFT! My rear tire went flat! Blahhh – I spent the next 15 minutes replacing my tube and finally got on my way. And damn, it was the hottest day of the year so far – thank goodness for A/C at work.

Guess bike issues come in pairs (do they?) because besides the flat, I’ve found that my bottom bracket is coming unthreaded. What that means is that the crank – aka the bolt that holds my pedal bracket to the part that turns the gears and propels the bike forward, is loosening while I ride, which basically means that if it comes out, I can’t ride since I have nothing to turn – aka this:

Luckily, my bike is still under warranty so I took it in today for repairs. I means I’m out of a road bike for 2 weeks at the least. Sucks since I’m trying to prepare for a 75K ride in June. But, it means I’ll be hitting the mountains for the next few weeks. And that’s never a bad thing.
