Will Reid stop playing video games?
March 25th, 2008 | by Reid |So I just canceled my subscription to Gamefly. Their service is the video game equivalent to Netflix, where you can get video games shipped to your house, play them for however long you want, and then send them back. And for a few months, this was great - instead of spending $60 for an Xbox 360 game (I own an Xbox 360, but not a PS3 or Wii), I could simply play through a game for a few weeks and then send it back for a cheaper price. Of course, I had the goal of beating a game as quickly as possible in order to get the next one, meaning I had some pretty hardcore video game marathon sessions. But, I eventually ran out of good games to play and kind of got burned out of playing games every night. I also ended up playing some dumb games, simply because they were available for rental. And of course, I couldn’t rent games that require additional hardware, such as DDR, Guitar Hero, or Rock Band, which I will un-embarrassingly admit I enjoy playing. I wouldn’t say that I’m disappointed with my customer experience with Gamefly, but simply that I ran out of good games to play and couldn’t justify the cost.
So, will I stop playing video games? I think not…I’m anxiously awaiting the release of Grand Theft Auto IV.
If you’ve ever played any previous GTA game, the storyline is involved, the dialogue is great, and the action is superb. I have no doubt that this game, even though it’s been delayed countless times, will not disappoint. The game is slated for release on April 29th.
