July 22nd, 2006 | by Reid |It is hot! I wake up every morning now sweating, even with the fan in my room on. But, I’ve been reading about conditions in St. Louis and I’m glad it’s not that bad. The power is out, it’s around 100 degrees, and there’s been nasty storms. Luckily the National Guard is helping things out and I hope they’re doing a good job.
Research has progressed at an exciting rate. I think I’ve decided to focus on investigating the redevelopment of San Francisco’s Japantown after World War II. However, after reading one text, it seems that someone has already written a MA thesis on the topic and I am in the process of obtaining that copy. But I feel I might be able to advance an original argument within what’s been already written, either focusing on ethnic relations in the city or the JACL’s presence in SF or the investment by Japanese foreign companies in the city by the 1960s or the model minority. So a lot of options.
Went biking at a place called El Corte de Madera. Probably the best mountain bike trail yet! Some insane downhills, scenic singletracks, but also some really long uphills. We’re going again this Sunday! Can’t wait!

We were just up around Corte de Madera. You should go up to Mt. Tamalpais — apparently, alot of the APEN staff are into biking and hiking and it’s supposed to be a good spot.
