May 19th, 2006 | by Reid |My earliest memory of riding in a go-kart was in second grade, when I was living in Westport, CT. One of my friends had a go-kart and with painstakingly careful supervision, I got to sit in the passanger seat while my friend drove around the driveway a grand total of one lap. I’ve always been interested in driving a go-kart, I guess because it’s sort of like the whole interest in mini-golf, bumper boats, and arcade games. It’s entertainment and fun. Today was that day when I finally go to drive a go-kart! Our dorm went to Malibu Grand Prix and for $5, we got to drive around about 15 times. It was a pretty sweet deal and it was plenty of fun. Of course, it wasn’t all that I expected - now don’t get me wrong, driving around the track and hearing the engine rev was great. On the other hand, I didn’t get to really race anyone so as you continuously wait in line before you can drive around the track another time, you start to realize that it’s a very singular activity and only after it’s all over can you talk about how much fun you had.
I haven’t had time to stop and realize that this quarter has gone by really quickly. There’s only four weeks left or something and then I’ll be a Senior. Frankly that’s scary, because I really feel like I haven’t gained any maturity (it’s gotten worse) since coming to Stanford. On the other hand, I guess I’ve gotten slightly smarter and slighty decided what I want to do when I graduate. But only slightly. And it’s dependent on someone hiring me and somebody else taking the time to recommend me or be a reference. I guess it’s a sign for me that I can’t really stop and do nothing. At least that’s partly motivation for me to continue to try in school and work for the beyond. But at the same time, how big a difference is .1 in someone’s GPA? I guess school has taken a lot of my time this quarter and I’m starting to realize that summer might be equally as busy.
