First day of classes!

History 120A – Russia 988-1762 first.  Professor Kollman wasn’t very exciting and she couldn’t get her slide projector working, so it was kind of pointless to go, except to get the syllabus.  However, the workload doesn’t seem like too much and only 15 people came today.

CASA 88 – Theories of Race and Ethnicity.  Professor Yanigasako is going to be a good lecturer and the readings should be thought-provoking.  There are a lot of people taking the course – about 40 students total.

History 291E – Maps, Borders, and Conflict in East Asia.  Professor Wigen seems like she’s going to be a hard grader and the class seems really intense, but I suppose I’ll get something out of it.  We went to the Branner Earth Systems library today, where we looked at their collection of over 20,000 maps (not all of them at once) from around the world.  I love maps so I think this course will be really cool.

With some free time in the evening, I decided to reinstall Windows in my PC.  This turned out to be a huge headache, since I had to deal with viruses that attacked my computer as soon as the computer was hooked up to the internet.  But, everything was under control by morning.  In the meantime, I got really damn good at Freecell!

I went to the gym for the first time this year with Chris.  My abs will probably hurt tomorrow, but I need to get back into shape.  I also talked more with our neighbors – everyone is really friendly, provided you actually corner them and talk to them.
