After bearing another Russian history course and taking notes during an interesting lecture on 19th century conceptions of race, I found myself at the A3C, doing some catch-up reading for CASA (since I moved section to 1) and some other random work. Section for CASA was interesting, but a little burdensome because a lot of people seemed to be talking just for the sake of participating, which bugs me.
I sent off a slew of e-mails and also went to Roble to pick up flyers for the SIC course. I saw Alex and Chris and stopped to say hello. Roble singles are quite nice! After a lackluster dinner at Manz that made my tummy hurt, I got myself over to the gym for some exercise. If there’s one thing I want to keep this quarter, it’s my exercise routine. It keeps me much healthier than if I don’t have it – and so far I’m doing well! Of course it’s just been a week.
And tonight I finally did my first bit of homework! I read 55 tedious pages on Russian history from the 900s-1200s. 300 years in 4 hours, not bad I suppose, although by the end I was falling asleep. I’m not sure why this type of history does not seem so compelling to me versus all of the other history courses I’ve taken here. I think it’s just a matter of time before I start appreciating Russian history and its culture, ideas, and politics that have changed over time.
