March 20, 2005

My sister and I were up early (9ish) to go to Ko’olina beach with my Uncle Dean and 35 month old cousin Austin.  The beach is so beautiful – in my opinion, one of the best in Hawaii.  The water was clear, there weren’t many people, the sand was clean with no rocks, and the sky was pure blue.  I went in the water a bit, splashed around with Austin, and even attempted to jog to another lagoon, but got tired and decided to catch some rays before eating a nice bento take out lunch from Zippy’s.

During the afternoon I was privy to individed attention with Austin – this included playing Thomas the Train with him, being tugged on while checking my e-mail, and playing peek-a-boo with him in the car.

Dinner was at the Kam’s, where my Uncle Larry cooked some excellent food – shrimp, oyster, eggplant tempura, sushi, sashimi, and bbq beef.  It was my Grandparent’s 55th anniversary so there were a lot of old folks, but also a lot of babies running around.  It made me think about a changing of the guard – how as my grandparents have been getting older, there really hasn’t been anyone ‘new’ in the family.  That’s all changed in the past few years with Austin and Tobey, but soon it’s gonna be me and my sister – that sure is a crazy thought.  Then my parents will be grandparents and I’ll be a Dad.  Oh goodness.  I’ll need a job too.  And a place to live.  Ahhh.
