Another day of barely any sleep. I woke up at 9:55 and had to bike over to work really out of it. MLKPP was cool – I’m entering a crapload of invitations for MLK to speak at various events. He got so many each day! It’s interesting – a lot of organizations plan to give him an award, but he has to be there to get the award, so if he doesn’t show up, he doesn’t get the award. One was the Father’s Day award given by the National Father’s Day Committee. I kind of thought it was a funny award, but it’s pretty serious apparently – JFK, John Glenn, and a Rockefeller got the award back in the day. MLK didn’t get it because he couldn’t make the ceremony. Most unfortunate. But it’s incredible – Jews, Quakers, Christians, across the country were soliciting him for speeches and just his prescence. It really highlights the magnitude of what MLK meant for the Civil Rights Movement.
After a quick lunch it was off to Asian Americans in Politics. A lot of people didn’t show up (sucks for them) so we have a pretty good discussion. PWR 2 was pretty chill because we talked about each other’s scripts. After that I grabbed a quick dinner of Pad Thai from the dining hall (not bad, not bad at all) and went to a Safeway with Adele where we got a measely $10 worth of food. However, we managed to get by with 3 liters of ginger ale and 2 blocks of cheese to go with already existing crackers for Friday’s event. I’m glad that’s out of the way, but there’s a lot more to plan and get.
This evening I sort of relaxed, but put together stuff I need to do for tomorrow – more Roosevelt stuff and also figuring what I’m going to do regarding research for my classes. It sucks because the books I need are either non-circulating. Especially at Hoover – if I take the papers out of the room they’ll arrest me. Haha.
So yeah, bed early tonight. I am hella excited.
