November 26, 2004

Up at 6:45 because I was working at Express from 8-1. Gosh, it’s nice to be back. But, the store was so different though, Pam was promoted, the displays are different, and we had all sorts of new clothes….I want all of the new sweaters and shirts! AHHH, but I can’t spend ANY money. No no no.

Anyway, work was pretty fun. A lot of the old people were there, but there were so many new ones, and I’m glad I knew what was going on because it was just so overwhelming since it was the day after Thanksgiving. Express gave out FREE cashmere/wool scarves to anyone who bought anything. These scarves cost $78.00 and you could buy $8.50 socks and get one free! Since employees weren’t able to do that, I called my Mom after work and had her pick me up a pair of socks and a scarf. Hahahha. So, I pretty much promoted the scarves to get people to buy something for the morning, doing the front-zone selling for men’s side. Apparently I brought in $3500+ during my five hours. Ridiculous.

So after work I headed over to Andrea’s, where we then headed back to the Galleria to try and find her something so she could get a free scarf. Nothing caught her eye though :-(. We went to the Timex store where she got a new watch band, and then to Blockbuster. We got Shrek 2 for my parents and Lost in Translation for us to watch. After dinner I headed over to Kirkwood to ice skate with Andrea, Beth, Hilary, and Natalie. That was a lot of fun! I hadn’t been on ice skates since the summer, but my feet kind of hurt from being on the floor all day during work. We then headed back to Andrea’s for some hot chocolate and then Andrea and I watched Lost in Translation. It was a pretty stupid movie. If Bill Murry wants to be pissed off because the Japanese culture is soooo different from the type of life he’s used to, he should just deal with it or get the hell out. He didn’t even attempt to learn the language while he was in Japan – honestly, it just perpetuates the arrogant American stereotype. Maybe English should be the world language or something. Actually, no, because we’re dumbasses and don’t use the metric system.

that’s an interesting interpretation of the movie. i never thought of it that way. i concentrated on the love/friendship aspect of the story, which i think was beautiful. also, i think his annoyance with japanese culture was a projection from his annoyance with his life in general and he had to find something to be crabby about bc he wasn’t happy. the only place he was happy was with scarlett johannsson’s character.

i went to express today and got a sweater and a free scarf!  those scarfs could not have been really $78.00, that was total crap (even though it said that on my scarf too).  they just make people think they are getting an awesome deal.

yeaaa i was at express yesterday :) but i couldn’t find anything i liked so no free scarf for me :/
i agree with you on lost in translation. i was so irritated with how rude he was being and the movie’s ridiculously touristy treatment of japanese and their culture. and yay for the metric system :)
