I checked out Colonial and Revolutionary America today. It was a pretty packed class of about 100 students. The Professor wasn’t incredibly exciting and the material wasn’t that appealing (so much like AP US), but I’m going to stick out the class. The readings look pretty good, and the workload isn’t as much as Africa in the 20th Century. The worst part about the class is that my final will be on the last day of finals at 8:30AM. Dammit.
I learned about the origins of the croissant in Middle East in the 20th Century. When the Ottoman Empire suffered a defeat from the Austrian Empire after a failed siege of Vienna, the famous half-crescent pastry was created to rub-in-the noses the victory over the Ottoman’s. The Ottoman’s symbol was a half-crescent moon, thus the shape of this pastry.
After lunch and a semi-boring Intro to IR lecture, I ventured over to the Engineering quad for Physics 16: Cosmic Horizons. The professor is a really nice guy, and the workload shouldn’t be too much, so I think I’m taking the right class. He realizes that almost all of us are in the class because it’s a GER and we’re all fuzzies, so he’s cool with that. But geez – he turned off the lights today to show us some planets and stars and crap and bam, I was out. This is definitely a sign of things to come…
So, the rest of the evening I sat around my room, ventured over to the bookstore to pay more money for books, and then read a bit for my classes. I’m not really into that school mode, so reading is going really slowly for me, and I’m not used to concentrating that much. Kind of sad. Well, at least I got some Scrabble games in. Did you know that Yar and Yare are acceptable words?
Physics: Cosmic Horizons? hehehe. For people who don’t like the Math PAC here, they take Math of Many Cultures at Pitzer.
on your last entry I was wondering why you were taking a Physics class but I see why now.
Yarrrrrrrr like a pirate :B
yeah, you’re either going to drop, skip, or sleep through that class…
