August 27, 2004
My summer routine of sleeping in and then waking up for brunch continued today. My Mom seems to have a problem with my sleeping in though, I guess she considers it being lazy, since she gets up insanely early (5AM) and is out doing all sorts of errands and things before I even get up. That’s a mom for you though, so of course she found a way to make me do things around the house. I mean, so far I’ve done a lot of painting and patching, along with vacuuming, moving furniture, and cleaned. It’s defintiely not a problem, but it’s just a bit irksome when she wants things done at the very moment she assigns a chore, as opposed to on my own schedule. But, oh well, I think about how much they have invested in me, and how they’re paying for college, so umm yeah, it’s not that big a deal for me to pick up all the sticks in our yard, which is what I did this afternoon.
I read more of Brave New World after finally getting it out of my car. I didn’t finish it though, and before I knew it, I had to head over to Holmes Lounge at Wash U for a quartet gig. We were playing for the Chancellor’s Parents’ Reception. It was packed and crowded, so we were barely heard. Parents close to us enjoyed our music, and you could definitely tell many were nervous about their kids now being in college and away from home and everything. It did turn out to be a good thing that it was loud, since we were playing with Miriam for the first time, and had some complications melding our sound together. We ended promptly at 6:30 and I sped off to Express.
I barely made it on time to work. It was a slow shift, 7-close, especially for a Friday night, but that allowed me to straighten and fold clothes when customers weren’t in the store. Because of that, we were able to leave at 11, while Stacie and Maria were still doing registers. Nothing noteworthy happened tonight – well, except for one guy who bought a shirt and pants, and then went to the fitting rooms and put on that outfit to wear out tonight. That was kind of amusing.
Well, I dropped off Rain Man at Blockbuster and headed to Andrea’s. Hannah, Hilary, Nikhil, and Andrea were just returning from Kaldi’s, and we hung out in the red room, chatting and everything. Andrea and Nikhil are leaving for Wash U. tomorrow, so sadness! But, it’ll be cool to see all of her friends and everything. Well, I guess they’re my friends too, but you know, I met them through Andrea. Andrea did seem excited to see her roomies and friends tomorrow, so it’ll be nice to also be there to hang out. At least they don’t see me as the annoying boyfriend. But, since I’ll be hanging out there so much when I’m not working at Express, maybe I will get that title. Haha.
yea, both my parents absolutely hate wasting time. they both get up early and do a million things before i even wake up. so they assign me things and assume i’ll do them right away too! but yea, i mean, considering what they’ve done for us, it’s all good.
don’t worry, you won’t get annoying! you’ll only be here for about 2 more weeks!! eek…but yeah, i think they like you
tell her all the things you do while you’re up late at night and she’s sleeping!
