July 27, 2004
I woke up really early at 7:30 to go to work at Express for a 8:30-4:30 floorset shift. I showered, and as I was eating, Ryan calls me, telling me I was supposed to be in at 7:30 – I thought I was supposed to be there at 8:30! I was really embarassed and also upset with myself, especially since Ryan is the one manager that I think doesn’t like me, and me messing up what time I’m supposed to come in didn’t help any. I rushed over to Express and got there around 8:15.
Work started off kind of bad. I was setting up one of the yarndye tables, and a lot of the shirts and sweaters weren’t in yet, so the picture I was supposed to model after couldn’t be completed. I had to improvise and put what we had out on the table and kind of make it work. That made it take longer, and since we had to open the store at 10, I had to rush. I also pulled a lot of shirts, ties, belts, and pants for 6 different manequins.
My Mom met me for lunch, which was a very nice break! We went to CPK and I got the California Club – bacon, lettuce, chicken, and tomato. We ate outside, which wasn’t so bad because it was a really nice day. I then went back to work.
Things gradually got better back at work and by the end of the night I was in much favor of the managers. Since Ryan was behind on the floorset, I stayed past 4:30 until 9:30 and was a major help to him by folding a ton of shirts, finishing another table, and taking a bunch of backstock items to the storeroom. He was really thankful for that, and now I’m sure he likes me. :-) I also got a free Auntie Anne’s pretzel and a Sprite from staying, so that was cool. The final thing I did for the night was fold about 20 yarndyes and 1MX button-down shirts. It was tedious but now I’m really good at that. I also helped a guy named Mike who was working the men’s side for the second time. It’s pretty cool that after a month you can pretty much know most of everything on the men’s side. And, I’ll be leaving to go back to Stanford before I get sick of it.
I headed home and did most of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch crossword puzzle, finished some leftover CPK pizza, and hung out until Andrea was done EM-Star stuff. I headed over to her house and we chilled, including eating a Tropicana popsicle. Yummy! Driving home I saw only three cars. That means it’s way too late, so goodnight.
Wow you worked for way too long. Bleh, you need to boycott the galleria CPK with me! j/k..
