July 30, 2004
I woke up early to go to the dentist. Two cavities were getting filled. I got the novicane shot and after my lip and mouth were numb, Dr. Genthe started the drilling. Even with the numbing it still hurt a bit – he later said that the cavities were more extensive than he thought. With my lip still numb, I had a smoothie for lunch and then went to work.
Work was pretty interesting, especially with my lip still tingly and partially numb. I was afraid I was going to look like a babbling idiot with the numbing medicine still doing its thing, but nobody seemed to notice. Unfortunately, the nerves on those teeth were still smarting a little, so it was pretty crappy talking and moving around with that constant pain in my mouth. However, I made some big sales – three straight transactions netted me $500+ within 5 minutes. I left at 5pm, got some Panda Express, and then headed home to take a nap and take some pain killer for my toothache.
Since Brekk quit, I covered his shift tonight of 7-close. So, I was back at Express again, this time Lisa was there to help on the men’s side. She’s new, but Susan’s roommate, another associate and I’ve met her before while working the Chesterfield floorset. She was wearing a black business suit with a lacy camisole type top underneath, with a plunging neckline. When I was checking out some middle aged customers I asked them who helped them today. They said: “Lisa helped us” in this kind of sketchy voice. While I was continuing to ring up their purchase, one guy said, “Did you see the shirt Lisa was wearing?” Not really knowing what to say, I said, “Ummmm yeah, I did.” They then made some comment to the effect of ‘Hell yeah, it was really nice’ or something sketchy like that. Needless to say, it was pretty funny when I told it first to Dwight, and he then told Lisa. She was really embarrassed, but seemed to know that her cleavage showing was helping her make sales. Oh well. In other news, I met a woman who used to go to Stanford after asking her son if he went to Stanford since he was wearing a Stanford shirt. She lived in Donner, which was pretty cool to find out. I then folded a bunch of polos and jeans to close the store.
I headed over to Bubble Tea where I met Paige, Eric, and Andrea. I got a Strawberry slush with mango jelly. We went to Vintage Vinyl and then back to Andrea’s. We played some speed 30 second Scrabble, hung out and talked. I stayed until 3.
oh, that’s why you kept talking about cavities/your teeth last night…
Reid, you should up your sales like lisa and go around the floor shirtless, haha
