January 31, 2004

I woke up around noon and sat in front of the computer, checking the news and sports.  After my daily poptart, I headed over to Green library.  I went up to the third floor, and found a nice quiet study corner.  It was really nice, because the area was well lit and I got a lot of work done.  I finished “Quiet Oddessy” and brainstormed for my IHUM paper due next Friday.  I realized that I forgot the Bible back in my dorm room, which I think I want to use as one of my two books in my paper, so I headed back after a few hours of work.

What was really intersting, I thought, was the silly little writings written on the desk I was studying in.  It kind of gave me a tiny snapshot into some persons mind while they were also sitting in the same place I was sitting – what they were feeling and thinking.  Of course, it’s indeed a forum for people to express their thoughts when they are also spacing out.  There were some funny thinks written on the desk, including “FOCUS”, “WAKE UP”, “Good luck on your paper.”  Other funny things included “IHUM rocks”, immedietely below it: “no, SLE rocks.”  I could definitely sense sarcasm in both of those statements.  Then, there were some clever acronyms for IHUM. “I hate unecessary material,” “Intro to Hopless undergraduate masterbation,” and “Intertwining humanity under misery.”  It was funny stuff.  Yes, I did get work done too.

I really didn’t do much this afternoon or evening.  I started the Cossacks and plan to read more when I lie in bed.  All my friends were gone this evening, which made me feel kind of lonely.  Oh well, it was just one night and it wasn’t bad.  Andrea was online, so I got to talk to her.  That’s always awesome.

Oh, I also dropped Jazz history.  I finally sat down and tried to figure out when I’d be able to go to five live jazz performances.  It was basically impossible.  The venues were all in San Fransico, and I had no means of getting down there because the CalTrain doesn’t run on weekend.  The other problem was the price of tickets.  $20-40 per concert!  So yeah, unfortunately I had to drop the course.  I do hope to take the course some other time.

That sucks with the prices.  It’s kind of cool since I know the campus that I know where you actually are (like Green).
